Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe remains in critical condition following a headshot sustained during a campaign event in Bogotá on Saturday, but doctors have reported early signs of neurological improvement.

Uribe, 39, a prominent member of the right-wing Democratic Centre party and a possible presidential candidate, was attacked while speaking in a public park. The Santa Fe Foundation hospital released a statement on Wednesday, noting reductions in brain swelling and signs of cardiovascular stabilisation.

“Despite the severity of his condition, there are signs of neurological improvement due to a decrease in cerebral oedema. There is also evidence of a trend toward hemodynamic stabilisation,” the hospital said.
